The Richmond Air Force Kite Club provided an entire day of quality entertainment with their professionally choreographed routines and kite flying tricks.

It was a great outdoor day of kite fun and celebration accented by many happy kite flyers of all skill levels, along with arts, crafts, corporate vendors, and food vendors. Kids ran and played and flew kites while others napped on blankets, stared at the kite covered sky or simply sat and enjoyed excellent people watching and events happening across the park.

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia on the western side of Roanoke County lies a pristine gem of a park – Green Hill Park. It is appropriately named and it is worthy of the beautiful kite festival that rolls into the area each third Saturday in April. On April 20, the Blue Ridge Kite Festival took its 15th whirl around the park with a beautiful day of fun for all ages with kites of all sizes, descriptions, and capabilities. With license plates in the packed parking lot from MD, WV, NC, TN and beyond, kite festival guests had only to bring their smiles and join in all kinds of kite and festival fun! The talented and artistic Richmond Air Force Kite Club dazzled the crowd with countless exhibitions of handmade kites, extraordinary flying stunts as choreography of many designs fill the sky.

Thanks to the generosity of the many members of the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce who sponsor, host, and volunteer to bring the event to the region – the event was free! Kids received free Kroger kites and event T-shirts.

Roanoke County Parks & Recreation along with the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce collaborated in hosting the 15th Annual Blue Ridge Kite Festival for everyone to enjoy.
