300 Attend the 2015 Business & Technology Showcase
The Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2015 Business & Technology Showcase on February 11, 2015 at the Salem Civic Center sponsored by Ethos Technologies. This event had a full crowd as soon as the doors opened at 4:00 pm and remained full until the event end at 7:00pm.
Seventy-one Chamber members showcased their unique products and services including: massage, housing, employment, electronics, and many more! Nearly ten caterers/restaurants were on site handing out free samples of their most tasty delicacies. Arby’s and Jimmy John’s offered delicious sandwiches, while JMS Hospitality (Elephant Walk) served decadent shrimp and scallops wrapped in bacon. For the sweet tooth, Confection Connection provided flavored popcorn, cookies, and cupcakes!
New for 2015, the Business & Technology Showcase had Commonwealth Document Shredding on site, where guests could bring up to three boxes of shredding material. The Chamber also partnered with ITT Technical Institute and Goodwill Industries of the Valley in an electronics recycling. Attendees brought old laptops, desktops, cell phones, printers, etc. ITT Technical Institute will refurbish the computers, and with the help of the City of Salem, distribute them to families within the community that otherwise would not be able to afford them.
Attendees entered to win one of three Grand Prizes. Lindsay Regan and Amy Chernault each won a Samsung Galaxy Tablet donated by Ethos Technologies. Ariel Lev won a beautiful basket valued at over $200 filled with items from local area businesses donated by Nancy Creed, owner of The Orange Bandana.
Individual consumers and business owners were able to attend two free seminars with information on data loss and prevention hosted by Ethos Technologies and Sophos Security.
“The turn out and feedback from this year’s showcase has been phenomenon,” stated Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Caroline Goode. “The energy at the event was positive with outstanding attendance and networking opportunities. Also, with the recent data breaches, the free seminars could not have been available at a better time for our local businesses.”
